Inappropriate Jewellery From PNKLETTUCE

I received inappropriate jewellery from PNKLETTUCE this week! It’s no secret I love to swear, although I generally try to keep it clean for my readers. However, I thought some readers may love these completely inappropriate jewellery ranges too!

Inappropriate Jewellery From PNKLETTUCE

Inappropriate Jewellery

Already jewellery makers, requests were coming in so regular for the PNKLETTUCE team to have a favourite swear stamped on jewellery. This led them to decide to launch PNKLETTUCE. With inappropriate words as the main focus, customers can avoid awkwardly asking if something is too offensive. You can add any personalisation you like. Everything is handmade and stamped right here in Essex too!

Classy Mother Fucker Bangle

I received the Classy Mother Fucker Bangle to review.  I think it will be great for certain occasions! Sometimes you just need something a little bit sweary! The bangle comes in a lovely presentation box with a polishing cloth. For £25 this bangle comes in Gold, Rose Gold or Silver.

Classy Mother Fucker Bangle

This unisex bangle is easily stretched to the correct wrist size to fit perfectly. I have tiny wrists so I was relieved it was small enough to start with & I didn’t need to stretch it.

Free-From Baking Mixes

Sweetpea Pantry Free-From Baking Kits

Flapjack Mix

We tried out the Sweetpea Pantry Flapjack kit first. This fab kit is Gluten free, Dairy Free, Vegan & no added sugar. The recipe recommends using either 100g of coconut oil or 100g of butter & 4 tablespoons of honey or syrup. This will make 12 flapjacks or one big one!

Free-From Flapjack

This is a nice, quick and easy recipe that only takes 5 minutes to prepare. The girls really enjoyed helping make the flapjack and squishing the mix down into the baking tray. We used golden syrup to make our flapjack.

Free-From Flapjack

We really enjoyed the flapjack when it had cooled and set in the fridge for a while. There was plenty for everyone and it didn’t last long at all!

Brownie Mix

Next, we gave the Brownie kit a try! Who doesn’t love brownies? These Raw Cacao Flax & Teff brownies are simple to make. We used butter & golden syrup and eggs to make ours but for Vegan brownies add coconut oil, golden syrup/ natural syrup and flax ‘eggs’. This makes 12 scrumptious brownie bites.

Brownie Mix

This mix was quick and easy to make just like the flapjack was and it kept the girls happy mixing it all up. We all got a little impatient when we could smell them baking and looked forward to diving in!

Sweetpea pantry Brownie Mix

The brownies were delicious once cut up and cooled! I’d definitely try these kits again and they would be great for our BBQs with friends who are gluten and dairy free!

Night Of The Living Ted – Book Review

Eva read Night of the Living Ted written by Barry Hutchison and illustrated by Lee Cosgrove this week. Aimed at 7-9 years, Eva was sent a copy to review by Stripes publishing. This funny fright for Halloween night is available in paperback on Amazon for £5.99.

Night of the Living Ted - Book Review

Night Of The Living Ted

Night of the Living Ted is the first of a hilarious new series from award-winning author Barry Hutchinson. Lisa-Marie & her step-brother Vernon pop into town in search of a birthday present for their dad. They discover a Create-a-Ted shop offering free Halloween Bears!

That night the shopkeeper brings the bears to life for nefarious purposes but Vernon’s bear, Grizz doesn’t want to be a slave to humans. Grizz wants to rule the world! Having converted the shopkeeper’s Stuff-U-Lator into a machine for turning living matter into stuffed bears, he begins to prowl the streets. Can the children and Bearvis save themselves and the world from being stuffed?

Eva’s Thoughts

Teddies come to life and Invade the town! When Vernon makes a bear, it ends up coming to life in this funny but spooky story. Suddenly an army of evil teddy bears is on the loose. Perfect for readers who enjoy a good scare, and just in time for Halloween, one of my favourite times of the year.

My favourite part is when Vernon & Lisa-Maries mum & dad are turned into a frog and a slug. Vernon & Lisa-Marie need to learn to stop arguing long enough to help battle the beastly teddy bears and save everyone. It’s a really great book that I really enjoyed reading.

Does this sound like the perfect Halloween read for your child?

Nokia 8110 4GB Black Slide Phone From Ao

I was sent a Nokia 8110 4GB Slide Phone from Ao to review last week in black! Full of nostalgia, this mobile phone is based on the iconic 1996 model featured in the 1999 blockbuster The Matrix. With a more modern, sleeker look and feel with 4G capabilities and even a 2MP camera, the retro Nokia 8110 is available in black or yellow from Ao.com for £65. HMD is producing a ‘Nokia Originals’ range which started with the 3310 followed by the 8110.

Handset

The new Nokia 8110 is a much sleeker version than the original Nokia 8110. Still keeping its curve but doing away with the aerial makes the 8110 nice to look at and hold. The curve can make it a little awkward to carry in pockets but if you’re looking for a touch of nostalgia this is the perfect phone.

Nokia 8110 - Closed

Unfortunately, unlike in The Matrix, there is no spring-loaded action for the slider although this was considered. It’s a shame as I think this would have packed the perfect punch but then I guess if it had any issues it could be quite costly for a budget phone.

Nokia 8110 Retro Phones

I love the slider, it locks and unlocks the screen with a satisfying click. It definitely gives off that nostalgic look and feel of the 90’s

Nokia 8110 -Open

Setting Up

The 1500mAh battery needs to be put into the handset and charged before use and only took just over 2 hours to fully charge. I inserted a microSIM and turned the device on.

Retro Phones - Nokia 8110 4G

The phone runs on KaiOS and turns on fairly quickly. When the phone turns on you are prompted to connect to a wifi network. I connected to our home Wifi using the T9 input which I found easy reverting back to, even after all these years! The wifi connected quickly and I was taken to the next screen where I was prompted to create a KaiOS account with an anti-theft service. A KaiOS account allows you to remotely lock or wipe all the data on your phone.

Once the set up was all done I just needed to synch the time correctly and the Nokia 8110 4G was ready to go!

Display

For a phone with a tiny 2.4inch screen, I expected to find a blocky looking interface. The QVGA resolution means although it is a tiny screen is displayed really well although as it is LED it isn’t easy to see in sunlight and you definitely won’t be watching HD videos with it.

Nokia 8110 From Ao.com

Unless you open the slider you can’t really use the phone as it isn’t touchscreen, however, you can turn on the screen to check the time by pressing the power button on the right-hand side.

Menu

I wasn’t sure what to expect when opening the Menu, I guess I only expect 5/6 items. There are all the typical options you’d expect from a mobile phone, Call Log, Contacts, Messages, Settings, Clock, Calander, Camer, Gallery etc. There there’s the KaiOS Store, Youtube, Assistant, Music, Video, Google, Google Maps, Note, Calculator, Recorder & a unit converter.

Nokia 8110 Menu

For a remake of a phone over 20 years old they have managed to squeeze quite a bit into this funky phone.  I was surprised to find not just a remake of the classic game Snake but 3 other games preloaded too.

Snake

Snake is the one game we ALL miss and remember about our beloved Nokia phones from the 90’s. Who didn’t love playing Snake, beating your top score? The remake of Snake is quite different, now the game is in colour and the snake can CURVE! As with the classic Snake, there are several levels getting harder as you go along. Collect the apples and make sure you don’t crash into the end of your snake.

Snake - Nokia 8110

The new version of Snake just isn’t quite the same. Whilst I can appreciate the need for a more updated version I think people will find the new version of Snake a bit too modern. It is still fun to play but just doesn’t have the same feel.

KaiOS Store

Running on KaiOS, the 8110 has access to the store which has 3 categories, Games, Social and utilities. I was quite impressed that there are several games available for the Nokia 8110. Social and utility apps are lacking slightly with just Twitter for Social and Weather & Maps for Utilities. When you consider the 1996 model though this is a hugely modernised phone!

Camera/Video

The 2MP camera, you can’t really expect a lot from but it will take a quick snap. You won’t be able to edit the image and you are very limited with sharing on social media but the Nokia 8110 does have a camera, flash and records videos.

Retro Mobile Phones - Nokia 8110 From Ao.com

Battery

The 1500mAh battery in the Nokia 8110 is designed to last 600 hours on standby and 7 hours talk time which is pretty impressive these days! Nokia is well known for their long battery life and users won’t be disappointed with the new Nokia 8110. Using Micro USB for charging makes it easy to charge anywhere.

Connectivity

With 4G and 3G capability, you can browse the web and access the internet. You can access Twitter, Google Maps, Assistant & browse the web. The Nokia 8110 does have limited access however it can be used as a wifi hotspot making this phone the perfect festival/holiday phone for everyone to connect to.

Overall Thoughts

The Nokia 8110 is a more modern version of the classic with a much smoother, sleeker look and feel. For a limited feature phone with a long battery life, it would be fantastic for festivals, holidays, backpacking & more.

At £65 this retro phone would be an ideal back up. It’s been fun playing snake again even if it isn’t quite the same and I can definitely see why the Nokia 8110 will appeal to a lot of people. As a blogger, I like the idea of being able to check twitter but not be bothered by other social media notifications when I need a break too. This phone could certainly serve several purposes. After the success of the 3310, I can see the 8110 doing just as well.

What do you think of the Nokia 8110 4G?

Dirty Bertie: Frights And Bites – 3 Books In 1

Eva received Dirty Bertie: Frights and Bites from Stripes publishing this week which is 3 books in 1. Created and illustrated by David Roberts and written by Alan MacDonald this book is aimed 5-8 years. Paperback copies are available from Amazon for £8.99.

Dirty Bertie: Frights And Bites

Dirty Bertie: Frights And Bites

Frights and Bites are 3 wickedly funny books in one volume includes Dirty Bertie: Fangs! Scream! & Zombie! Each book has 3 short stories about Dirty Bertie. Dirty Bertie is a boy with nose-pickingly disgusting habits! Full of madcap plans and crazy ideas, Bertie’s always up to his neck in trouble! A perfect book released just in time for Halloween.

Eva’s Thoughts

Fangs!

Eva really enjoyed this book, especially as it is 3 in 1. In the first book, Fangs, Bertie has a world book day at school. He dresses up as Count Dracula but so does the school caretaker, Mr Grouch. Bertie and his friends decide Mr Grouch must be a real vampire because he’s scary. They end up causing trouble trying to trap the caretaker.

The second part Fangs! is called Hairy! Bertie’s mum and dad insist he gets a haircut by Sweeney Bob! Bertie really doesn’t want to go, Sweeney Bob doesn’t have lollipops and he cuts all hair the same. He comes up with a plan to get out of having his hair cut.. but it isn’t a great idea at all! Bertie looks ridiculous afterwards.

The Final part of Fangs is Fashion! Bertie gets dragged out shopping with his mum and ends up getting lost. In a bit of confusion, Bertie ends up in a fashion show and needs to find a way to escape!

Scream!

In the second book, Scream! Bertie wants to go trick or treating with his friends for Halloween but his parents say no. Instead, he is left with his Gran babysitting him and has to invite his friends in. They come up with a spooky plan to try and get trick or treaters to bring sweets to them instead!

Weekend! Is the second part of Scream! Bertie has to go on holiday to a boring cottage. On the way, they get stuck in traffic and Bertie ends up making himself sick in the car eating too many snacks. The country is quite scary and Bertie struggles to sleep and so does Suzy his sister. Eventually, they all sleep in their parent’s bed but when they get up Bertie is in trouble again!

The third part of Scream! is Spell! Bertie has a spelling test but he cheats and ends up being entered into the spelling bee. Bertie panics and tries to find a way to get through it with his friend, Eugene’s help.

Zombie!

The final book, Zombie! is about Bertie having his friends over for a sleepover at the weekend. Darren & Bertie convince Eugene a blood orange is full of real blood and turns you into a zombie! When everyone falls asleep, Eugene gets up and acts like a Zombie, eating a big bite of Berties mum’s special chocolate cake. No one believes Bertie though, so on the second night, he wakes Darren and his mum to show them.

Zumba! Is about Bertie going to watch his sisters dance class. He ends up having to join in but kicks one of the girls so he takes his mum’s phone and sits outside playing a game. When he gets bored he looks in the other rooms and discovers something funny. He calls Darren to come to meet him to take a picture and gets himself in trouble, again!

Zoo! is the final story in Zombie! Bertie goes on a school trip to the Zoo and ends up trying to get his roll back from the monkey enclosure after he tucks into lunch early. He tries to get it through the bars of the enclosure but gets his head stuck!

These 3 books and their 3 short stories were really fun to read. I think Bertie is funny and like most boys at school. I’d definitely read more of the Dirty Bertie series as they are fun and quick to read.

Have you heard of the Dirty Bertie series before?

Starting Reception & Toilet Training

Izzy is starting Reception today and she is so excited! She is really confident about going to school like Eva, she can’t wait to learn more and make friends. I guess having spent a lot of time picking Eva up from school and at school events, she feels confident about where she will be. It’s lovely to see her so excited but shocking realising how quickly these 4 years have flown by.

Starting Reception

Starting Reception

We’ve been waiting to hear from the school and finally got the call last week to collect the final forms. Having filled out & handed in the forms on Monday we were given Izzy’s start date. Her first day will be a half day followed by a week of half days, some before lunch, some after. She will get to take a packed lunch one day & have school dinners on the final 2 days to get used to the school day routine. Following that week she will be going full time like Eva (as she keeps pointing out!).

Big girls off to school!

We’d been eagerly preparing with all her uniform, shoes, bag & coat bought just in time. She can’t wait to show off her Unicorn lunch bag, Mermaid name tags from MyNameTags & of course our new favourite food wrappings, Eco Food Wrap. Izzy loves her fruit and vegetables which requires a lot of packaging across a week. Our Eco Food Wraps will save us a lot of money, not to mention plastic waste!

Excited for reception

Toilet Training

Knowing Izzy was starting reception this September we knew we had to get on with toilet training. So far it’s mostly been a success, during the day pull-ups haven’t been needed in almost 3 weeks! Unlike Eva at that age, Izzy has no fear of toilets & will happily take herself. Something I’m rather grateful for as toilet training can be so scary for some children. Night times are going surprisingly well too. She’s stayed dry most nights and we’ll be giving no pull-ups a go over the weekend.

I can’t wait to see how Izzy gets on with her first day of school as she was so excited. Fingers crossed she is just as excited to return on Monday. Hopefully, the toilet training at night is as much of a success as the daytime has been!

Purple Crocheted Summer Cardigan – Part 1

I’ve been creating a purple crocheted summer cardigan using yarn from Ritohobby. Summer may be over but this purple crocheted summer cardigan will be perfect for next year. Ritohobby is a Danish company supplying yarn & hobby products who have recently launched in the UK too.

Infinity Hearts Rose 8/4 yarn

I was sent the gorgeous Infinity Hearts Rose 8/4 yarn in purple to try out. This yarn is 100% cotton, it’s much thinner than the yarn I used for Eva’s Rainbow Unicorn Hoody. I was looking for yarn more like this for that project so I will be ordering more soon! The shade of purple I received is gorgeous and will look lovely with the outfit I wanted to team it with (Jean shorts and a vest top).

Infinity Hearts Rose 8/4 Yarn from Ritohobby

Purple Crocheted Summer Cardigan

As always, this project is taking longer than expected, forgetting that the summer holidays meant a lot more tidying! Creating the design myself using stitches I already know, I’ve worked on it over the summer and slowly getting close to finishing. I’m hoping to work much quicker with Izzy starting school tomorrow!

I wanted something light but warm, living near a river means even on the hottest days we can sometimes get quite a breeze. Whilst summer is over, this will be great for indoors on those warmer days.

Purple crocheted summer cardigan

I’m pleased with how this yarn works up, it looks lovely and feels lovely. I decided on a pattern I liked the idea of and got started. Similar to Eva’s rainbow unicorn hoody, the main body is worked as one piece until the armholes. I wear a size 8-10 cardigan so this is the sizing I’m going with.

Progress So Far

Whilst I have been slow with this project, the end is nearing! I just have a front panel, sleeves, hood & hem to complete. I’m really happy with how this is turning out and I absolutely love the Infinity hearts rose 8/4 yarn from Ritohobby. I will definitely be a regular customer with Ritohobby!

We were sent 3 different sizes & prints from Eco Food Wrap to try ourselves. We used them on Eva’s first day at school and she loved them & even remembered to bring it home! The wraps come in some lovely designs and different sizes to suit your needs.

We found the wraps so simple to use! I love how they mould to the shape you need just by gently warming them with your hand. They keep bread much fresher, something Eva instantly noticed when using the Eco Food Wraps. She often complains her lunch isn’t as nice having sat in the lunch tray all morning. It was nice she instantly benefitted from using Eco Food Wraps.

Midnight Fright – Vlad The World’s Worst Vampire Series

Midnight Fright is the latest Vlad The World’s Worst Vampire series for children aged 7-9 years. Written by Anna Wilson and illustrated by Kathryn Durst, Midnight Fright is available on Amazon for £5.99. Stripes sent Eva a copy to review, just in time for Halloween too! We’ve read and loved every Vlad book we’ve read so far and couldn’t wait to see what he’s got up to this time. Full of adventure and hysterical yet relatable moments, Vlad proves he really is the world’s worst vampire!

Midnight Fright - Vlad the world's worst vampire

Midnight Fright

Vlad’s vampire cousin Lupus comes to stay, to teach Vlad how to be a proper vampire. Lupus can fly brilliantly, turn into a bat in the blink of an eye and has an annoying raven called Claw. All Vlad can think about is how to stop Lupus following him to Human school. Lupus charms all the humans, leaving Vlad in despair! Until the school play auditions which shows who really has talent, and who is the one with true friends, Vlad is in for surprise!

Eva’s Thoughts

The Vlad the World’s Worst Vampire series is really fun to read! Vlad is funny, he is always doing things that vampires wouldn’t normally do like go to school with humans! Midnight Fright is all about Lupus, Vlad’s cousin who teaches Vlad to be a better vampire. He teaches Vlad to help him get his bat license. Lupus is a bit of a show-off but in the end, he really helps Vlad to practise for his bat license. I love the illustrations in the book, they make the story really fun to read.

If you love a good vampire story the Vlad the World’s Worst Vampire series is excellent. Perfect for reading over Halloween too!

Does Midnight Fright sound like a book for you/your child?

Lace Hem Pep Top

Cherry Crumble Clothing

The top Eva chose is a lovely lace hem pep top in lilac, turquoise and white. Eva is quite petite for 8 so we ordered 7-8 years which fit her nicely. The lace hem is really pretty and soft, I was expecting it to be rough but it really isn’t.

Eva loves this top and refused to take it off after wearing it as she likes it so much. It’s soft, comfortable and looks great with so many different outfits.

Tiny Leaf Sweatshirt

The Tiny leaf sweatshirt is a light pink colour and super soft with a beautiful leaf and flower design on both shoulders. We tried a 7-8 years sweatshirt which fit nicely on Eva. I would recommend ordering a size bigger if your child isn’t very petite though as the
