Clouds & Vehicle Spotting – My Sunday Photo

Cloud & vehicle spotting is this weeks #MySundayPhoto post. I missed out last week, giving myself the weekend to recovered from a stressful assessment. On the way to my assessment though I thought I would see how well my camera worked whilst driving along. I got this love shot of the clouds driving along the A127.

Vehicle Spotting

I also spotted this awesome converted ambulance parked up. I’m sure I got a photo last time but can’t find it anywhere so decided to share it anyway. I love seeing vehicles like this, it’s been painted quite simply yet looks quite cool. I wonder what they have done with the inside!?

Vehicle spotting

Whilst I’m currently without a phone, the Mr does at least have one again and spotted this parked up whilst shopping last weekend. I have to admit I smiled when he sent this through to me on his way home, he has complained about missing so many different cool cars.

I’m not overly keen on the colour though, I think it would look much better in purple! What do you think?

Southend Toy Shop – Argosy Toys AKA Toymaster

I’ve driven past Southend toy shop Argosy Toys AKA Toymaster since I was a child and always looked through the windows in awe! With its bright yellow front, you can’t miss this Southend toy shop. If you look a little closer you will a selection of all kinds of children’s toys. They also have an online store.

Southend Toy Shop Toymaster

I was shocked to find out Argosy Toys are a small independently run toy shop owned and run by Paul. Having worked there for close to 30 years is pretty impressive for any toy shop! It must be lovely for the locals growing up, recognising Paul behind the counter and going on to take their own children in to buy toys too.

Argosy Toys

Argosy Toys donate a big chunk of their small profits to SOS Domestic Abuse, local schools and Southend Hospitals Neptune Ward. I admire anyone who uses their small business to support causes like these and hearing Argosy toys could do with some extra local support, felt the need to share with you all this gem!

Stocking thousands of toys including big brands, this shop has a whole range of fab toys. They have something for all age ranges and interests. If you are passing through then please pop in and support this lovely shop. Don’t forget, you can order online too! Whether you take the kids in to pick for themselves or find something yourself as a gift, you’ll be supporting good causes too.

You can also buy from Argosy Toys online with £2.99 delivery or free delivery on orders over £40. Perfect for big birthday orders! From Hatchimals, LOL dolls, Playmobil and flush force you are bound to find the perfect gift and make someone’s day.

Have you ever visited this Southend toy shop before or perhaps spotted it driving past?

The Craft Beer Shop AKA Ales By Mail

Visiting The Craft Beer Shop AKA Ales By Mail in Billericay last week was a complete spur of the moment thing. After spending the morning feeling awful and nervous about my assessment I decided afterwards I needed to do something different. The Mr loves his craft beer but local taprooms/shops weren’t open as it was only 11 am. I knew if I went home I wouldn’t go back out and I wanted to find some beers to take home. We came across The Craft Beer Shop through a google search.

The Craft Beer Shop

Being open from 9 am instead of 12 pm made diverting make sense. It took less time to divert there than it would have done to wait around for closer ones to open. I knew I recognised the name when we searched for them and then realised I already followed them on twitter last year too. I was a little bit hyper after a morning of nervousness so got slightly carried away & loved finding a beer with my name on it!

The Craft Beer Shop

The guy working in The Craft Beer shop was really friendly and answered all our questions. Even when I didn’t make sense he didn’t make me feel overly anxious and helped us out. Our friend who drove me there managed to find himself a few nice beers with some help. I started to put together a selection of different craft beer’s for the Mr too. Minus 1 bottle our friend took home to drink this is the selection we left with.

Selection Of Craft Beers

Craft Beer Selection From Ales By Mail

I love the different artwork across the cans and may have let that lead my decisions slightly. Ok, a lot. I really like the look of most of the artwork across this selection though. I may have accidentally picked some rather strong ones!

Dr. Raptor

I’ll send the Mr next time as I think he would find some really cool craft beers here.  Out of the whole selection the Mr really enjoyed the Loka Polly – Chinook Simcoe India Pale Ale, Cloudwater – DDH Pale Citra Eldorado, BBN 55/06 – Double IPA & the Weird Beard God Of The Cold White Silence.

Bargains

Everyone knows I love a bargain and I did pick up a few. The Magic Rock – Panther Ale is just £2, The Loka Polly – Chinook Simcoe India Pale Ale is £2.95 (yep, for that big can!) and the Tiny Rebel Clwb Tropicana is £2.10.

Loka Polly - Chinook Simcoe India Pale Ale

Head over to Ales By Mail to find some other fab bargains online if you aren’t in Essex. They also own the Imperial Beer Club a craft beer subscription for trying new and exciting craft beers. I’m tempted to sign up when finances are a bit better as they deals and selections look great.

BB No 55 06

Helping me calm down and returning with a well-deserved drink for the Mr, I was pleased to have popped in. Visiting The Craft Beer Shop is a great experience. It was cool to see such a range of breweries and styles. We will definitely be returning soon and I will be sneaking in an order online in time for the Mr’s birthday in June too!

Cloudwater - DDH Pale Citra El Dorado

Have you heard of The Craft Beer Shop AKA Ales By Mail? Have you tried any of these beers?

First-Time Mum – A Letter To Myself #VicksBabyRub

I wrote a letter to myself as a first-time mum as part of the Britmums #VicksBabyRub Challenge. looking back to those days really did get me thinking about what I would tell myself. There are so many things I wish someone had told me. I was sent a gorgeous notebook & pen to help me jot down all those tips, tricks & simple pieces of advice a first-time mum deserves.

First-Time Mum #VicksBabyRub

To A First-Time Mum

Ember,

Being a first-time mum is both terrifying and exciting. Everything is about to change but you CAN do this! Pregnancy is exhausting and being a first-time mum is just as exhausting yet so rewarding. I have a few tips to help make the first year much easier for you. Everyone tells you to sleep when the baby sleeps but what if baby doesn’t sleep?

When Baby Isn’t Sleeping

Babies are well known to be terrible when it comes to sleeping but there usually is a reason. As a first-time mum, it can be so overwhelming when your baby is crying, here’s a few reasons your baby may cry & products to help soothe them.

Vicks Baby Rub – Perfect for soothing your little one, this moisturising and soothing rub is designed to comfort babies. A combination of mum/dads touch along with mild fragrances of Rosemary, Lavender & Aloe Vera can help soothe and calm your little one. Vicks Baby Rub is a cosmetic, non-medicated product which can be used at any time to help wind down & settle your baby.

Infacol – Colic is so stressful for baby and parents but Infacol is an absolute life-saver! With a handy pipette built into the lid, Infacol is easy to give to your little one and helps relieve Colic.

Dentinox/Bonjela/Ashton & Parsons Powders – Teething is possibly the worst part of parenting, knowing your little one is in pain is hard to bear. These fab products are designed to help ease the pain and soothe your little one.

Sudocream/Bepanthen – Nappy rash is a nightmare, it looks awful and causes little ones to cry out in pain. Creams like Sudocream and Bepanthen are specially designed to help heal and soothe babies skin.

Calpol/Nurofen – If all else fails and your little one is clearly in a lot of discomfort, or has a slight temperature, painkillers can help. Always read the labels & correct dosage instructions. Remember smalle/premature babies will need a smaller dose. Talk to your GP if you are unsure.

Helpful Notes

Money Saving

It can sometimes feel like we have to buy certain brands & products with little ones but the truth is there are some less-known brands that are just as good. Take Mamis Nappies & Wipes, for instance, these cost a lot less than most brands and just as good, if not better in my own opinion.

Bulk-buy products you know you will need such as nappies, wipes, washing powder, fabric softener & dishwasher tablets. Buying items like these in bulk can save you quite a bit of money which can be better spent elsewhere.

It’s OK!

It’s OK to make mistakes, everyone does as a first-time mum don’t let them get you down. You won’t always know what is wrong with your baby or what to do. Do what comes naturally, you’ll be fine! It’s so easy to blame yourself and feel guilty because you forgot to bin that nappy or wash up bottles. It happens, you’ve just spent 9 months growing a tiny human which is draining enough. Add in an exhausting delivery & a baby who sleeps very little. It’s hardly surprising little things will be forgotten when we are sleep deprived. Ask for help if you feel too tired and need help catching up on chores.

First-Time Mum Letter to myself

Believe In Yourself

It is so easy to feel like you have no clue what you are doing. Trust your instincts though, they will often be right on point! Don’t blame yourself if you can’t breastfeed, it happens, as long as your baby is fed and happy it’s OK. You are doing your best!

If you feel something is wrong, act on it. If you think something isn’t right with your little one contact your HV or 111 for advice. As a first-time mum, it can feel like nobody trusts your judgement but you know your baby best.

Enjoy The Early Days

Make sure you enjoy the early days as a first-time mum. The washing up can wait, the tidying doesn’t need to be done right now. Focus on your baby and you and getting through each day, getting to know each other and enjoying those baby days. We often get caught up in trying to look like we have it all together. The truth is none of us really do, we all lose track and forget things at times. Just remember you are doing the best you can and that’s what matters most. Your baby won’t remember how tidy the house but they will feel the bond growing between you as you spend time together just enjoying those early days.

Remember, you CAN do this!

This post is an entry for BritMums #VicksBabyRub Challenge, sponsored by Vicks BabyRub. Specially designed for babies aged 6 months and over, Vicks BabyRub is available at Boots, Superdrug, Tesco, Asda, Waitrose and all good pharmacy chains. RRP £3.99.

Try 4 Maintenance Tips To Stay Safe

Try 4 Maintenance tips to stay safe on the road with the awful weather we’ve been having. When the weather changes it is important your car is well maintained and in perfect working condition. If you plan to make even a short journey you really should consider these 4 maintenance tips to stay safe.

4 maintenance tips

4 Maintenance Tips

Keep Fluids Topped Up

Always check fluids are kept topped up to keep your car healthy. Checking you have enough oil, coolant, brake fluid & fuel before journeys can help to avoid breakdowns and costly repairs.

Check Tyres

Check Tyre’s before journeys to ensure tyre pressures and tread depth are at the correct levels. If you are unsure then check your owner manual. As a child, our car lost control in the snow due to extreme wear on the tyres. The tyres couldn’t grip the icy roads and spun out of control narrowly avoiding a tree. It’s a good idea to check for slow punctures and anything that may have got stuck in them during previous journeys.

Check Lights

Make sure you check your headlights, brake lights & indicators are in fully working condition before setting off. Without these you can’t warn other road users or pedestrians of your movements on the road. This puts you and others at high risk of a fatal accident that can be easily avoided with a replacement bulb.

Servicing Before A Long Trip

Servicing your car before a long trip can help to avoid any major complications. Having someone experienced service your car is always best when it comes to road safety. There are plenty of car servicing businesses available and different ways to book your car in. Car servicing in Wakefield can be booked online from Ossett Tyre House.

Do you regularly check any of these before your journey?

Our Little Globe letter

Eva read out the letter which was filled with fun facts about Spain, with the picture showing them the monkeys in Gibraltar. The girls found out about Las Tomatatos, where the whole town comes together to throw tomatoes at each other! Of course, the girls said they would love to try that out.

Personalised Woven Labels From Easy2name – Review & Giveaway

Gorgeous Personalised Woven Labels from Easy2name arrived in the post last week with ‘Handmade by RelentlesslyPurple.com’ on them! I had been looking at labels for my crochet projects, hoping one day I’ll be good enough to give something away on the blog. For now, you can enter below for a chance to win your own personalised woven labels, read on to find out more!

Personalised Woven Labels - Review & Giveaway

How To Order

The ordering process with Easy2name is so quick and simple with a wide range of options and label types. Once you have selected the type and quantity you would like to order you can then personalise your label.

Personalised Woven Labels

I chose the 23mm woven labels over the 12mm as they will mostly be stitched onto my crocheted items which tend to be quite big/chunky. I decided to go with a flower motif and chose my text ‘Handmade By RelentlesslyPurple.com’ across 3 lines. Then I selected font 4 as it is quite similar to the font on my blog header.

Easy2name have a wide selection of colours available for letting and labels. I decided to have my woven labels in purple with cream lettering. The labels arrived really quickly and look so lovely, I can’t wait to finish my huge granny square blanket and add one to it! These will definitely come in handy, especially when I make items for the girls.

Personalised Woven Labels

Last year a girl convinced Eva the scarf I made wasn’t hers and it was never returned even though it was completely different to anyone else’s scarf. If it had one of these on there would have been no dispute and Eva would still have her scarf. They will definitely be used to avoid situations like that again.

Easy2name make it so easy to name and personalise a range of items, I recommend taking a look at their website to see what else is available. If you don’t win the giveaway below but would like to order some personalised woven labels yourself, then see below for the price list.

Watching A Film

2 Oreos with a glass of milk is a perfect treat for anyone at anytime. The Great Oreo Cookie Quest seemed like a great way to spend more mother-daughter time with Eva across the weekend. Eva loves Oreos and enjoyed having them as a treat when we snuggled up to watch a film together!

The Great Oreo Cookie Quest

Crocheting

I’ve been teaching Eva to crochet lately, and whilst we had a small hiccup after discovering she crochets left-handed, she is learning. When she gets frustrated we take a quick break and an Oreo quickly puts a smile back on her face. We’ve been practising chaining which she can do with finger knitting so she is picking up confidence bit by bit. We found some fab tutorials online for lefties (I am left handed but crochet right handed!) so I’m sure she will get the hang of it soon!

Oreos & Crochet

Creative Homework

It’s been a slow process with lots going on recently but we have been working on a 3D model of Mount Merapi for Eva’s creative homework. She has been reading The Firework Makers Daughter at school and couldn’t wait to make the model. After several layers of papier mache, it is finally dry and ready to paint! Hopefully, we can hand it in this week!

Reading

As I mentioned in a few recent posts, Eva is becoming a big reader like I was at her age, she speeds through books in a day or 2. I try to encourage her to read to herself and out loud to us, she loves reading out loud. Whilst we were spending some one on one time comfortably reading on the bed we treated ourselves to an Oreo.

Reading with Oreos

Eva really enjoyed reading about the human body in this interesting pop-up book. She loved finding out how our bodies work and can name so many body parts and their functions. I love the detail in the book and listening to Eva reading with confidence.

Oreo challenge

Did you find all 10 Oreos in our photo’s? Do you love Oreos too?

Updating Your Kitchen On A Budget

Updating your kitchen on a budget? We have done the same and have some helpful tips to get you started. Following our kitchen, bathroom and toilet refit I decided to change the colour scheme to purple, of course! I was worried when we started as I didn’t really think updating your kitchen on a tight budget was possible. Luckily there are some fab deals around!

Updating Your Kitchen On A Budget

Updating Your Kitchen On A Budget

You may remember I managed to get a purple microwave, toaster and kettle all for a reduced price as I waited for a deal. I snapped them up as soon as the price dropped and was really pleased with myself. These items can really help you work out the rest of your kitchen too. They don’t have to be overly expensive to look nice or do the job either. I picked up all 3 appliances for just £60!

Microwave

There are some great microwave deals out there as well as kettles, toasters and more. Once you have your small appliances and main colour scheme you can easily find items to match if you shop around. I chose mostly purples for my kitchen with powdered lilac walls and deep purple appliances to match. With the black worktops and light wooden drawers & cupboards, it keeps our kitchen looking and feeling clean and fresh!

Updating your kitchen on a budget is more than possible with so many great deals around. I managed to find a lovely dishwasher for less than £200 in silver which goes really well with the colour scheme we went with. I would never have been able to decide what colour for our main appliances if I hadn’t found the purple microwave first!

Our appliances were all mixed colours until we began updating our kitchen. We replaced our washing machine that broke with a lovely silver one too and already had a silver fridge freezer. We are looking at eventually replacing our oven with a silver one too and will be on the hunt for deals for that too!

Are you updating your kitchen on a budget?
