Key Finder From Recover-Key

I received a Key Finder from Recover-Key to try out, a product designed to reunite lost keys with their owners if found. It is easily done when we are rushing around or out having a drink or even have toddlers that love to lose important things!

Key finder keyring from Recover-Key

Why Use A Key Finder

I am always losing my keys! Thankfully I only tend to lose my keys at home, possibly because I rarely go out haha! It definitely gives me peace of mind knowing if I do lose them and someone finds them, they can be returned easily. Losing keys causes panic, frustration and generally an unnecessary cost. Calling out a locksmith or even replacing several keys at once can be an unwelcome cost. This can be avoided if someone spots your key finder and contacts Recover-key.

What is Recover-Key?

Recover-Key is a service that provides a quick, safe and secure return of your keys for a one-off payment. This service costs just £10 with no monthly subscription cost. Once ordered your key finder will arrive within 2-3 days via Royal Mail 2nd Class Delivery. If you enter your details before the release date (2nd February) you will receive a 50% discount dropping it to just £5!

Key Finder Key Ring

The Key Finder key ring contains a 24/7 contact number, email and site address for Recover-Key. It also has an ID number unique to you. Using this unique ID number Recover-Key will contact you via the provided email address and organise the safe return of your keys.

Such a simple yet effective idea! I always check keys when I find them in case I can locate the missing owner before handing them in. I’d definitely spot this bright yellow key ring and make sure to contact them. This great service will be ready in early 2018 for the public to buy. I would definitely recommend signing up to reserve one or receive emails to find out when they become available to buy.

Do you think a Key Finder would be helpful for you too?

Mental Health Apps – MentalSnapp

I’ve been looking at mental health apps that can help me cope better on bad days. Mental Snapp is an app designed to help you manage your mental health using private video diaries. I know 2 people who find recording videos of themselves really helpful and love the sound of Mental health apps such as Mental Snapp.

Mental Snapp App Screenshot

Mental Health Apps

Mental health apps are a great way to manage and monitor your mental health. 1 in 4 of us will have a mental health episode at some point and it can be so confusing. Using mental health apps like Mental Snapp to actively manage our mental health can make it much easier. If like me you hate appointments and struggle to ask for help, apps like these can help us get things off our chest when we really need to.

Hannah Chamberlain, co founder of the app and originator of the idea, says; “I came up with the idea for Mental Snapp having told my own mental health story on film and helped other people tell theirs. I’ve been managing my own condition and making films on mental health for twenty years, and seen how telling your own story on film really makes a difference to people. Mental Snapp is a way to make the therapeutic benefits of journalling, rating mood and naming feelings accessible – the camera on your phone can be the therapist in your pocket.”

Mental Snapp

This video recording mental health app, Mental Snapp is available free to download from the App Store and Google Play. This helpful mental health app has been designed to be a space for you to tell your story and gain confidence. You can record short video diaries, rate your mood and name your feelings when using Mental Snapp. Your videos aren’t watched by anyone else so you don’t need to worry about being judged. It’s your version of events, and telling them helps you reflect and get to know yourself better.

Costs

A free app is always a good start and Mental Snapp is available for free. If however you need extra space to save your videos and want to access extra features, you can. The app costs £4.49 per month. The Mental Snapp app has been featured in the London Evening Standard. The idea is welcomed by the DWP too.

The Office for Disability Issues, DWP, says; “We welcome Mental Snapp as an innovative idea to help people manage their mental health. People living with mental health and other long term health conditions have barriers to overcome in living independently. The Government has set out a commitment to see one million more disabled people in work by 2027 and technology has an important part to play in helping us achieve this goal.  Mental Snapp is an exciting example of how technology can help promote methods of recovery that help people to live fulfilling lives.”

Mental Snapp can help you find things out about yourself and learn your moods easily. You simply record your video clip, rate your mood, tag a feeling and that is it! Nice and simple yet very effective. The app organises your video diary clips so they are easily searchable. This fantastic app also provides you with prompts and allows you to see patterns over time using the insights page.

Mental Health Apps - Mental Snapp Screenshot

The team at Mental Snapp believe you already have the skills you need to manage your mental health. Using the app and recording regular video clips can help you draw out those skills. It can feel a little odd recording yourself at first. Stick with it though and I promise you will see the benefits.

Do you think you could benefit from using Mental Snapp?

Bookkeeping And Accountant Services For Bloggers

A reliable bookkeeper and accountant for bloggers is important when it comes to monetising your blog. Most of us bloggers eventually aim to monetise our blogs in someway. When we do however it can get a little confusing. There is just so much to keep track of and learn on top of what we are already busy doing.

Bookkeeeping and Accountant Services or Bloggers

Why You Need An Accountant

Keeping track of incomings and outgoings and working out Tax returns can seem very confusing! It is definitely worth investing in a reliable bookkeeper/accountant as you can save yourself a lot of valuable time. Having an accountant that knows what they are doing can help you avoid missing deadlines and being penalised. Win-win!

In all honesty I wouldn’t know where to start looking for an accountant myself. When I spotted Kaiden (A Suffolk Dad) tweet that his partner Jamie was waiting for his AAT license and asking for suggestions to get his services out there I thought I could help. Sharing Jamie’s services with my readers was a no-brainer for me. Bloggers often ask each other for advice and recommendations so it made sense to share his details.

If you are in need of a bookkeeper/accountant to help with your tax returns then check out the services Jamie offers below. Give him a message to see how he can help you keep on top of your accounts.

Self Care Gift Ideas And 5 Self Care Tips

Self care is something I have been saying I will put more effort into for ages now. Bit by bit I am learning to take care of myself a little bit more. It is hard as I am not used to it but I am making some time for me to relax.

Self care helps us prevent a major crash and is so important for our minds and bodies. This print is available on it’s own for £2.50 plus shipping or part of a pack of 5 mini prints for £10 plus shipping. 5 Self Care Tips

It is so easy at times to forget about ourselves and worry about everyone else. Taking time out for yourself can make such a difference to your mood though. Those of us with anxiety and depression can really struggle to feel we are worth the time and effort. We know everyone deserves love and kindness but we often forget ourselves.

Be still

Do you find yourself constantly rushing around trying to finish all the never-ending jobs? STOP. Take a break, go for a walk in a beautiful park or along the river. Stop and simply enjoy your surroundings and the silence or sounds of nature. Take deep breaths and just be. I have to admit I underestimated the effects of this and am learning to do this more often.

Find an activity you enjoy

Especially as a parent I found I quickly gave up most things I used to enjoy to dedicate my time to my girls. Having a hobby/activity you enjoy and gives you a little you time is so important for self care. It really doesn’t matter what it is but spending even 20 minutes doing something you enjoy can change your entire day. I love to crochet and colour and have started picking up craft bits I have been wanting for years so I can do something for me. When you finish an activity for yourself it feels like a brilliant achievement. Even meeting up with a friend for a coffee counts!

Say ‘No’

Saying yes constantly leads to burn out. Remember we can’t please everyone. It’s ok to say ‘ No’ and put your health and well-being first. You are a priority, if you don’t take care of yourself how can you care for others? This is something I still struggle with daily BUT I have learnt to say No when it really matters and I have seen the difference it makes. Don’t feel guilty, we all matter! I love the saying ‘ You can’t pour from an empty cup, take care of yourself first’.

Pamper yourself

I struggle badly with this one but it is so important to pamper yourself and feel good. Make time for that bath, light some candles, relax in the bubbles. Washing my hair is something I regularly put off as it literally takes hours to wash dry and straighten but when I make time for it I feel awesome afterwards. Visit a spa or invite a friend over for a pamper evening for a real boost!

Make notes

If like me you tend to forget about yourself then make notes, leave them where you are most likely to see them or in a notebook. Not only can jotting down reminders help but writing about our feelings can help us process our emotions too. The self care notebook is fantastic for this. Reading back through our writing can sometimes help us see solutions to our problems.

If you or a friend are lacking when it comes to self care then I help these products and tips are helpful!

Living Room Makeover For The New Year

A living room makeover is our focus for the new year to make our living room a little cosier. Over the last 4 years since we moved in there has been several changes made to our living room but I am still not happy. We had a refit of our toilet, bathroom and kitchen a year or so ago. That side of the flat looks much better but now need we need to update the other half of the flat too.

Living Room Makeover – Choosing A Sofa

The first thing I want to replace as part of our living room makeover is our sofa. We bought a cheap temporary replacement last year but we need something sturdier and a lot comfier! I love sitting in the corner as I feel much more supported so it has to be a corner sofa. My back makes me sit at strange angles so I need a sofa that has thicker cushions than what we currently have too.

Corner Sofa’s

Fishpools have some fantastic fabric corner sofa’s which I have been looking through. They have so many options available perfect for any living room makeover! I prefer fabric to leather as it is warmer in the cold months and you don’t stick in the summer! I want a sofa that is big and comfortable for us all to snuggle up on and watch films but I also want something that looks smart. Fishpools have some lovely sofa’s to choose from so I have been checking out their corner sofas.

Living Room Makeover - Fishpools Hollywood Corner

I love this Hollywood Corner sofa, it looks stylish whilst still being a comfortable sofa. There are several options for this sofa and additional products such as foot stools. We have the corner on the right when buying a new sofa because of how our living room sits. The cushions are foam-filled with a fibre topper for maximum comfort which sounds perfect for me! I would definitely get the pillow back option for comfort too.

Décor Ideas

If I had a sofa like that I think the rest of the décor would fall into place much better. I still need to decide on paints but think this would look lovely with deep purple and cream walls. I think I will carry on moving over to black wooded furniture too, it does get dusty quick but it looks much nicer!

What do you think of the Hollywood Corner Sofa? Are you having a living room makeover for the new year?

Looking Back At 2017

Looking back at 2017, I can honestly say it was one of our better years. Things still went wrong.. a lot. But we coped better, we have some amazing people around us who have helped in so many ways to make 2017 survivable.

Looking Back At 2017

Looking Back

2017 was stressful at times, looking back at our year we have had several expensive things break. Our dishwasher was first followed by the washing machine, the new washing machine, the Mr’s phone, the cooker, my phone and of course we couldn’t end the year without one more thing break.. the Mr’s new phone. Less than 90 days old. My good friend Slim and his lovely mum have helped us a lot this year through these issues and I am eternally grateful to them. Fingers crossed 2018 is a better year with less breaking and needing replacing!

2017 has also been great in so many ways! Realising we do have some fantastic friends, blogging friends talking me through the ups and downs and giving me something to giggle over and my confidence has at least grown enough to stand up for  myself again. I have met so many lovely people through the blogging world who have helped me see I am not alone.

Blogging Buddies

We have had some fantastic days out with Martyn (Inside Martyn’s Thoughts) who we went to the Medway English Festival and the Rochester Dickens Festival with. We also met the lovely Hannah (Cupcake Mumma), Martyn’s better half. 😉 Hannah helped Martyn put on a lovely little party for Izzy’s 3rd birthday when we couldn’t manage it ourselves. They are such genuinely lovely people and it brightened up our year.

Izzy & Martyn

A lot of lovely bloggers chipped in and bought Izzy a replacement pirate ship too. A visitor broke hers and she was absolutely devastated but she loves her new ship even more and plays with it just as much! I actually cried over this, it was such a lovely, thoughtful thing to do for Izzy!

Making Progress

I have travelled out of my area via public transport to visit Martyn. A small thing for most but a huge thing for me as I struggle to go too far from home especially alone. Especially just for me to get out for a break and a catch up. I think this has helped a lot with my confidence too, knowing I can do it even with a few small wobbles on the way. I’ve stopped feeling guilty for going out. Looking back I have realised its good for the Mr to spend more time with the girls alone. It’s great for me to have a break occasionally too, something I rarely do.

I have slowly learnt to manage my chronic pain better. Whilst I still over do it at times, it happens less now. I am learning my limits! This has helped with my mood so much, I no longer snap as easily as before. I am able to speak up when I know I need a hand, maybe not all the time but compared to before it is a big change! I still spend a lot of time dosed up curled in my corner recovering from something simple like a walk into town but I know when to admit I have to stop.

Coping Better

My anxiety and depression have become slightly more manageable too. I still have awful days and anxiety still eats away at me regularly but I am recognising the signs of a big meltdown and can at least let someone know I am struggling. More counselling will no doubt be needed at some point but for now I am happy I have made some progress alone. I know my anxiety is still ridiculously out of control (not helped by nurses!) but it isn’t 24/7 now maybe more 20/7. Crocheting is still calming me when I really struggle and so is blogging, hopefully over the next year I can progress some more and try to overcome the choking anxiety I feel most of the time.

Growing The Blog

Looking back the blog has grown a lot this year. Thanks to blogging we have had the chance to review some amazing products over the last few months and visited the Rainforest café to see Santa in exchange for a review which was fantastic fun for the girls. I’ve worked with some great companies on subjects that are important to me.

I wrote about the importance of handwriting in children in collaboration with Stabilo. I shared a lovely 2018 Page A Day Diary from Ryman. There are several gift guides I have worked on and lots of lovely books too. These little things remind me that I am not stupid or lazy for not working. I am still trying to do something useful. It means the girls get a few extras we otherwise couldn’t manage.

The blog has become a big part of our life and I definitely want to carry on growing it. I would love to review more events and days out with the girls too as we really enjoy it!

Feeling Good

A lot has changed this year. Looking back through the good and the bad, I have realised I am not alone, ever. It doesn’t matter what the issue is, I just need to reach out, someone will be there. Having people to talk to this year ( I am sure some wish I would shut up at times haha!) I’ve managed to get stuff off my chest I have bottled up for years. I honestly think that has been the greatest help. I have stopped beating myself up so much and come to accept a lot of my past. Nobody is perfect and having a group of people who admit they aren’t, who listen with an open mind and just be there (even if it’s just in emoji form) has made 2017 that bit better. Thank you to everyone who has helped make 2017 survivable!

I’m hoping for a better year in 2018 with my Mr and girls with a few good friends around us. I can’t wait to see what is in store for us! Lets just hope no more appliances or phones die 😂😂

Visiting Santa At The Rainforest Café

Visiting Santa at the Rainforest Café was such a lovely, magical experience. Rainforest café invited us to visit Santa’s Grotto with a meal for the girls afterwards in exchange for an honest review.

Visiting Santa at Rainforest Cafe

The rainforest café is close to the Piccadilly circus Tube station which made planning the journey fairly straight forward. We were really excited as my brother was joining us keeping to our Christmas tradition we started a few years ago too.

The Rainforest café grotto experience includes:

  • A personalised invite from Santa Claus
  • A warm welcome from his elves on arrival
  • Enjoy a personalised meeting with Santa Claus in his grotto
  • A Christmas Gift
  • Children’s 2 course meal & soft drink

Traveling To The Rainforest Café

We couldn’t wait to finally visit Rainforest Café after having our original booking moved. Visiting Santa had the girls so excited and we couldn’t wait to get there. I will admit I had a stressful start though, I lost my bank card a week or so ago. Because of this there was an issue transferring money to the Mr’s account. Luckily my brother saved the day and we managed to get on our way but it made me extremely anxious. Going out with very little money is hell! Several lifts were broken at the underground stations which made my travel anxiety worse but somehow we managed the journey with the help of some lovely kind strangers. The girls enjoyed watching performers and passing the Piccadilly Emporium on the way to the Rainforest café.

Piccadilly circus performers

Both performers at Piccadilly Circus

With my chronic pain and my brothers lupus and bad legs we were a little bit of a mess by the time we arrived but the staff were so welcoming which really helped put us at ease.

Talking tree at rainforest cafe

If you have mobility issues the amount of steps at rainforest café will be a challenge. I do suggest talking to the staff before booking as they do have an accessible entrance. I had thought we would be ok but my brother and I struggled slightly. After all the stairs at tube stations it was quite exhausting. Totally my fault and totally worth it even if Tramadol will be keeping me going for the rest of the week haha!

The rainforest cafe

Arriving At The Rainforest Café

We went downstairs to the Mushroom bar which was full of fantastic rainforest effects and animatronics which were absolutely fantastic.

Gorilla in a christmas jumper

We were greeted by the elves at the booking desk who greeted the girls by name once they had our time slot. The girls absolutely loved this, the elves were brilliant and stayed in character the whole time which really added to the experience. We were asked to wait at the bar which has some awesome animal stools to sit on.

Arriving at Santa's Grotto

Visiting Santa At The Rainforest Café

An elf came and took us down another set of stairs after a short wait and asked the girls to find the Christmas trees. When they found the trees she told the girls they had just put the reindeer to bed so they had to be very quiet and tip toe into the grotto. They knocked on the Grotto door and entered a beautifully decorated grotto. Some grottos feel very claustrophobic but Rainforest Café have a large but cosy grotto which was great. Visiting Santa at the Rainforest Café is a fantastic experience.

Talking to Santa

Talking To Santa

Santa chatted away with the girls using the information from our booking sheet I filled out via email. Eva was delighted when Santa mentioned her teacher. He also mentioned a present she wanted and several other personal details. Izzy spent most of the time chatting away and showing Santa she can do the splits and yoga. She asked him lots of questions and really enjoyed herself.

Checking out the Christmas tree

Izzy really loved the Christmas tree and decorations. Santa barely got a word in edgeways with my two chatterboxes, he was fantastic with them though. As you can see they really enjoyed themselves visiting Santa in his cosy grotto.

Posing with Santa

Sticking To Family Traditions

We took a few photo’s of our own and bought a photo of the 4 of us with Santa. This is part of to our Christmas tradition so I was pleased when we were offered a picture of us all. The girls then received a rainforest café tote bag with a gorgeous soft fluffy penguin each. They also received a gorgeous Christmas stories book, certificate and sticker. They absolutely loved their presents and were so happy to be visiting Santa at rainforest café.

The girls, my brother and I with Santa at Rainforest Café

After our grotto visit we were taken to buy our photo which was £10. We were then told to head upstairs to the restaurant where we were shown to a table. The girls received a 2 course meal and drink as part of the Grotto package. Due to my earlier transfer issue I was unable to order anything myself but the girls meals looked lovely.

Kids meals at Rainforest Café

Eating At The Rainforest Café

Eva chose Burger and chips and Izzy had fish cakes and chips. Eva chatted a little too much (every meal!) so her burger went cold but she enjoyed the half she did eat. Izzy demolished her veg and much to my surprise she ate a few chips, they must have been amazing as she is extremely fussy with chips!

Chocolate ice cream and toffeee sauce sundae

They both had a lovely dessert after their meal. Eva had the chocolate ice cream with toffee sauce and Izzy had a lovely bowl of fresh fruit. They both left happy with full tummy’s ready to head home.

Fruit bowl at Rainforest Café

The waitress was fantastic and we didn’t have to wait too long between dishes which was great. The decorations and effects kept the girls amused whilst we waited. Izzy wanted to bring them home.. not sure an elephant that size would fit in the lift though!

Animaltronics - Moving elephant

An Unexpected Accident

As we were leaving we of course had yet another problem on our part. Eva spilt her juice over her gifts and herself and began panicking. After our awful start I was close to tears myself. I doubted they could help but I somehow braved asking a member of staff if there was any way they could be replaced. Obviously I would have fully understood if they said no. I just couldn’t cope with the thought of a journey home with Eva distraught at rush hour. After such a magical experience I would have felt awful leaving without at least asking. Amazingly the staff managed to find one last penguin and Christmas stories book much to everyone’s relief.

Finally home with their presents

Fantastic Staff

I am eternally grateful to the staff who replaced the items for Eva. I took care of them until we got home to prevent anymore accidents. We managed to dry out the certificate with very little damage once we got home to Eva’s delight. Both girls ended their day with smiles on their faces cuddling their penguins.  They excitedly told the Mr all about the café, animals, elves and Santa when they got home.

Parrot at Rainforest Café

After all our stress it as fantastic to make it to the Rainforest Café to experience their fantastic grotto package. The food and drink are typical London prices. We will definitely go back again with the Mr as the girls really enjoyed the whole experience. I can’t fault Rainforest Café at all, the experience was fantastic. Staff were outstanding and even in our stressed states Alex and I enjoyed ourselves too.

We tucked the girls into bed with their penguins in their arms and huge smiles on their faces. They told us they had the best day ever as we left the room which literally says it all! Visiting Santa at Rainforest Café is a magical experience I would definitely recommend trying once.

Have you visited the Rainforest café before or booked the grotto experience? Would you book this experience?

Watering Globes Giveaway & Review – Plantpal

This week we have a Plantpal watering globes giveaway having received a large set of 3 to review. These watering globes automatically water your plants for up to 2 weeks. A great idea for keeping plants watered whilst on holiday. We have been trying out the Plantpal watering globes over the last few days. It is interesting to see how steadily the water leaves the globe. The watering globes really give you confidence your plants are being watered correctly.

watering globes giveaway

Watering Globes

Plantpal watering globes are suitable for year round use. They prevent over watering during winter and under watering in the summer. This makes plants healthier and stronger as well as growing twice as much as normal watering. The globes contain an intelligent patent pending control moisture sensor that doesn’t require batteries. It’s always nice not having to rely on batteries for everything as they often run out when you least expect it. There is no risk of that with the globes, as long as you follow the instructions correctly these watering globes are reusable too.

Plantpal instructions

The globes are easy to fill and have a separate water control spike which eliminates soil clogging up the globe, a common issue in other watering globes. The capillary wicks need to be moistened thoroughly in a glass of water before using. It is so easy to use and fill the Plantpal watering globes. These fantastic watering globes make great gifts for plant keepers that will last for years.

Aerolatte Milk Frother Review

The Aerolatte Milk Frother comes with its own storage tube for £9.94 on Amazon. I received the Aerolatte Milk Frother to see what I thought about it myself. I love hot chocolate and it is most definitely the right season so I couldn’t wait to try it out.

Aerolatte Milk Frother

Aerolatte Milk Frother

The Aerolatte Milk Frother is a hand-held, battery-operated device (comes with batteries) is designed to produce perfect frothy milk in under 20 seconds. The Aerolatte Frother can be used to froth all types of milk, including soya, rice, almond, coconut, UHT and powdered (as well as single cream). The spiral whisking head and shaft are made from robust, food-approved, 18/8 stainless steel and comes with a 2 year guarantee.

Emma from CookBakeEat recently did a round up of the 7 Best Milk Frothers For Coffee including the Aerolatte milk frother too. She listed all the pros and cons for each Milk Frother and compared them. I agree that the milk spills easily, the first time I used the Aerolatte milk frother it spilt everywhere. You do need to hold on tightly as the Aerolatte is rather powerful. If it heated the milk at the same time it would definitely be a bonus.  However it may not be as useful for whisking eggs, sauces, soups, custards and salad dressings if it heated too.

The Aerolatte is ideal in the kitchen as it can be used to froth all types of milk, perfect for anyone with allergies. I think that is definitely a huge advantage. I will definitely be using the Aerolatte regularly to froth the milk for hot chocolate. It can also be used for whisking other foods making it a handy gadget to have in the kitchen.

For under £10 I think the Aerolatte Milk Frother is reasonably priced and works well enough. I would definitely recommend holding the Aerolatte tightly when frothing milk as it is quite powerful. Overall I think this is a great Milk Frother and well worth the money.

Do you have a Milk Frother? Does the Aerolatte sound like something you would find useful too?
